The most critical step in producing coil-coated aluminum panels is the coil coating process itself. This technology was introduced into China from abroad in the late 1980s to early 1990s. After nearly two decades of development domestically, it has evolved into a mature and reliable coating technique. The process involves pre-treating the aluminum substrate, applying a coating via the roller coater, and then curing it in an oven to form a specialized surface layer. These panels are widely used for both interior and exterior decoration in modern large-scale buildings.

Coil-coated aluminum panels offer the following features:

(1) Light weight, high stiffness, and strength: A 3.0mm thick aluminum panel weighs only 8kg per square meter, with a tensile strength of 100–280 N/mm².

(2) Excellent durability and corrosion resistance: PVDF fluorocarbon paint based on Kynar-500 or Hylur500 ensures color retention for up to 25 years, extending the service life by over 10 years compared to conventional exterior wall materials.

(3) Good workability: The aluminum panels can be fabricated into various complex geometric shapes including flat, curved, and spherical surfaces.

(4) Uniform coating thickness and a wide range of color options, providing great design flexibility.

(5) Stain resistance and ease of cleaning: The non-stick nature of the fluorocarbon coating prevents contaminants from adhering to the surface.

(6) Easy and fast installation.

(7) Recyclability and environmental benefits: Aluminum panels are 100% recyclable—unlike glass, stone, ceramics, or aluminum composite panels—and have high recovery value.

Compared with conventional spray coating technology, coil coating offers the following advantages:

(1) The coating thickness with coil coating is only two-thirds that of spray coating, controllable within 1–2 μm, while exhibiting better physical and chemical properties. The production process is free from airborne paint mist, making it more environmentally friendly.

(2) With a one-third reduction in coating thickness and no material waste, paint consumption is reduced by over 50%.

(3) Coil coating can be over 10 times faster than spray coating, significantly improving efficiency, reducing labor costs, and lowering energy consumption, resulting in a more energy-efficient and low-carbon footprint.

(4) Panels produced via coil coating can be transported as flat sheets and even processed on-site, whereas spray-coated panels must be shipped as finished products. This reduces transportation volume by five times and cuts logistics costs by more than 65%.
